Welcome to the Society for Jewish & Disability Studies!
The Society brings together a diverse and international cohort of scholars at various career stages, from graduate students to senior faculty, all of whom intertwine the study of disability into their work in Jewish studies. The Society supports and fosters innovative scholarship and collaboration in the emergent field of Jewish disability studies. Disability, broadly construed, plays a critical role in shaping daily life, influencing how individuals move through and engage with the world. However, with the exception of the work of a few groundbreaking scholars, the field of Jewish studies has only just begun to attend to disability as a discrete and critical analytical lens that expands and augments scholarship and received narratives. By gathering these scholars doing cutting-edge work at the intersection of disability and Jewish studies, this project intends to develop a new field through putting their work in conversation with each other.
